How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Teen Dal Dosa Recipe

  • Parboiled rice 1/3 cup

  • Split bengal gram 1/3 cup

  • Split green gram skinless (dhuli moong dal) 1/3 cup

  • Parboiled rice (ukda chawal) 2 cups

  • Oil to shallow tablespoon

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Muskmelon seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Whole dry red chillies broken 2

  • Curry leaves 4-5

  • Coconut scraped 2 tablespoons

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

 Wash and soak the three dals and rice in six cups of water for four hours. Drain and grind coarsely using a little water.

Step 2

 Transfer the batter into a deep bowl.

Step 3

 Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan and add asafoetida, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, broken dry red chillies and curry leaves. Grind this with coconut into a paste. Add this to the dal batter and mix well. Add turmeric powder and salt and mix.

Step 4

Heat a tawa, drizzle some oil, and wipe it with a muslin cloth. Spread a ladleful of batter thickly. Drizzle a little oil all around. Cover and cook on medium heat till the underside is golden.

Step 5

Flip over, drizzle some more oil till the other side turns golden.

Step 6

Serve hot.
