Ingredients for Sarson Saag Chicken Recipe

  • Chicken cut into 8 pieces on bone 750 grams

  • Spinach puree blanched 1 cup

  • Filtered mustard oil (sarson ka tel) 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Ginger 1 1/2 inches

  • Garlic cloves 8-9

  • Green chillies 5

  • Yogurt 5 tablespoons

  • Gram flour (besan) 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Cinnamon 1 inch

  • Cloves 10-12

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

Heat mustard oil in a non-stick pan till it reaches smoking point.

Step 2

Roughly chop ginger and put in a grinder jar. Add garlic cloves, roughly chopped green chillies, mustard seeds, yogurt, gram flour and 4-5 tbsps water and grind into a smooth paste.

Step 3

Reduce heat, add cinnamon, cloves and cumin seeds to the pan and sauté for ½ minute. Add chicken pieces and salt and mix well. Cover and cook for 3-4 minutes.

Step 4

Add ground paste, mix well, cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Step 5

Add spinach puree, mix well, cover and cook till the chicken is fully cooked.

Step 6

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
