How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Rice Packets In Banana Leaf Recipe

  • Basmati Rice 1 cup

  • Banana Leaves 4

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Onions chopped 2 medium

  • Ginger chopped 1 teaspoon

  • Carrots finely chopped 2 small

  • Whole green grams (sabut moong) cooked 1/2 cup

  • Pickle masala 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

Heat oil in non stick pan, add onions and sauté for 1 minute. Add ginger and carrots, mix and sauté for 1 minute. Add moong and toss. Add pickle masala and mix well. Add rice and mix well. Add salt, mix and cook for 1 minute. Switch off heat.

Step 2

Soften banana leaves from both sides by keeping them on open flame for a second.Place a portion of rice mixture on one side of a leaf and roll. Seal ends by inserting toothpicks at both sides. Prepare remaining packets similarly.

Step 3

Heat non stick pan. Place packets on it and cook for a while, flip and cook on the other side too. Open and serve hot.
