Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Oats Uttappam Recipe

  • Rolled (porridge) oats roasted 1 cup

  • Dosa Batter 1 cup

  • Mixed sprouts 1/2 cup

  • Onion finely chopped 1 medium

  • Green chillies finely chopped 2

  • Salt to taste

  • Mint chutney 2 tablespoons

  • Olive oil to cook

  • Sesame seeds (black) as required

  • Tomatoes finely chopped 2 medium

  • Iceberg lettuce leaves 8-10

  • Lemon juice 1/2 tablespoon

Method

Step 1

Place sprouts in a bowl. Add onion, green chillies, salt and mix well.

Step 2

Place oats in another bowl, add salt, dosa batter and mix well. Add mint chutney and mix well. Add a little water to adjust consistency.

Step 3

Heat a non sticktawa and grease it lightly with a little olive oil. Pour a ladle full of batter and spread it thickly.

Step 4

Sprinkle a little black sesame seeds, a little of the onion mixture and tomatoes and let the uttappa cook.

Step 5

Shred iceberg lettuce leaves and keep in a bowl. Add 1 tsp olive oil, lemon juice and salt and mix well.

Step 6

Drizzle a little olive oil around the uttappam. Flip it over when the underside is a light golden and drizzle some more oil all around and cook till the other side is slightly crisp.

Step 7

Place the uttappamon a serving plate, place some lettuce leaves on top, sprinklea little black sesame seeds and serve hot.
