Ingredients for Moong Dal Uttapam Recipe

  • Whole green grams (sabut moong) soaked overnight 1 cup

  • Ginger chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Green chillies broken 2-3

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh mint leaves chopped 8-10

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon

  • Lemon 1

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Oil for shallow frying

  • Banana leaves cut into r

Method

Step 1

Grind together ginger, green chillies, chopped coriander, chopped mint, cumin seeds, red chilli powder, salt, asafoetida and whole green gram with ¼ cup water and transfer into a bowl. Adjust the thickness of the batter by adding water, if required, to make it of dropping consistency.

Step 2

Add lemon juice and mix well.

Step 3

Finely chop onion.

Step 4

Heat oil in a non-stick pan and wipe dry with a tissue paper. Pour ladleful of batter on it and gently spread into a disc. Add some chopped onion on top, press and cook evenly from both sides.

Step 5

Alternately, you can also cook pancakes on banana leaves. Spread the batter on greased banana leaf round, put onion on top and cover with another banana leaf. Put it in the pan and cook till done or steam for 4-5 minutes.

Step 6

Serve hot.
