Mexican Fish Wrap

The most common impression about Mexican food is that it is hot and wholesome and has many similarities with Indian food. And like Indian cuisine Mexican is not one single cuisine but many. There is a feast of flavours for the food lover as the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean teem with fish, while the adjoining regions bloom with luscious fruit like pineapple and papayas. The high plateau yields wonderful vegetables and the north is cattle country…..and to bind all these in one single string are chillies…in every shape, colour and size, from the subtle to the strong, producing a signature to Mexican cuisine.

Ingredients for Mexican Fish Wrap Recipe

  • Boneless fish fillets halved 2

  • Tortillas 4

  • Salt to taste

  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste

  • Juice of ½ lemon

  • Cucumber peeled 1 small

  • Hung yogurt 3/4 cup

  • Olive oil 1/4 cup + 4-5 tablespoons

  • Garlic chopped 1 teaspoon

  • Egg 1

  • Breadcrumbs for coating

  • Cabbage shredded 1 cup


Step 1

Place fish pieces on a plate, sprinkle salt, crushed peppercorns and lemon juice on them on both sides and rub in well. Set aside to marinate for ten to fifteen minutes.

Step 2

Remove seeds from the cucumber and chop finely.

Step 3

To make yogurt sauce, put yogurt in a bowl. Add one-fourth cup of olive oil and keep whisking till well blended. Add salt and crushed peppercorns and whisk again. Add cucumber leaves and garlic and mix well.

Step 4

Separate egg white from yolk and add salt to the white. Beat well.

Step 5

Spread the breadcrumbs on a plate.

Step 6

Dip the marinated fish pieces in the beaten egg white and roll in the breadcrumbs.

Step 7

Heat four to five tablespoons of olive oil in a non-stick pan, place the fish pieces on it and cook for two to three minutes on each side or till evenly golden on both sides. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 8

Heat a non-stick tawa. Place tortillas on it, one by one, and heat them.

Step 9

Place the heated tortillas on the worktop. Place some shredded cabbage in the centre of each tortilla and spread some yogurt sauce on it. Halve the fish pieces and place them on top and wrap.

Step 10

Serve with the remaining yogurt sauce.
