Ingredients for Damper Bread Recipe

  • Refined Flour 3 cups + for dusting

  • Butter a pinch

  • Baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Butter chilled and cubed 3 tablespoons


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180°C. Line a baking tray with butter paper.

Step 2

Mix together flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl. Add butter cubes and rub with your fingertips till it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add three-fourth cup water and knead into semi-soft dough.

Step 3

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for one to two minutes.

Step 4

Flatten the dough into a disc of eighteen centimeter diameter and place it on the tray. Dip a knife in flour and make incisions on top. This is the damper bread.

Step 5

Dust the damper with a little extra flour and bake in the preheated oven for thirty minutes. Cool slightly.

Step 6

Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
