During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

  • Chocolate chips 3/4 cup

  • Refined flour (maida) 3/4 cup

  • Soda bicarbonate 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt 1/4 teaspoon

  • Cocoa powder 2 tablespoons

  • Butter softened 60 grams

  • Sugar 15 teaspoons

  • Walnut kernels,coarsely chopped 1/2 cup

  • Vanilla essence 1/2 teaspoon

  • Buttermilk 1/2 cup


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180˚C. Grease a baking tray. Sieve refined flour with baking soda, salt and cocoa powder into a bowl.

Step 2

Add butter and mix lightly. Add sugar, walnuts, vanilla essence and half cup of chocolate chips and mix. Add buttermilk and mix into a batter of thick yet dropping consistency.

Step 3

Drop spoonsful of the batter onto the greased tray keeping sufficient distance between each. Place the remaining chocolate chips over each cookie.

Step 4

Bake in the preheated oven for about twenty minutes. Turn them onto a wire rack to cool. Store in airtight tin.
