Ingredients for Varan Recipe

  • Split pigeon pea (toor dal/arhar dal) soaked for 1 hour 1 cup

  • Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon

  • Asafoetida ½ teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Sugar ¼ teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Pressure cook the pigeon peas with turmeric powder, asafoetida and 3 cups water till 4 whistles are given out.

Step 2

Open the lid of the cooker once the pressure is completely released.

Step 3

Mash the peas with a mathni. Add salt and sugar and mix well. Bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 4

Serve hot with steamed rice.
