With the recognition of being an important commercial pulse of the world, soya beans are coming into many kitchens around the world. Soya beans are said to control blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, regulate the bowels and relieve constipation. Besides the popular tofu or beancurd, the beans are also fermented and used to make flavouring pastes and condiments, notably the Japanese soy sauce or shoyu and miso and the Indonesian tempeh.

Ingredients for Soya Granule Tikki Recipe

  • Soya granules soaked in warm water for 10-15 minutes and drained 2 cups

  • Onion finely chopped 1 medium

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin powder ½ teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon

  • Green chillies finely chopped 2

  • Potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed 2 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2-3 tables for garnishing

  • Bread crumbs ¼ cup

  • Oil for shallow frying

  • Lemon wedges as required


Step 1

Take soya granules in a bowl. Add onion, chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder and green chillies and mix. Add potatoes and mix well.

Step 2

Add salt and mix. Add lemon juice and mix. Add coriander leaves and mix. Add breadcrumbs and mix.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape into tikkis.

Step 4

Heat some oil in a non-stick pan. Place the tikkis and shallow-fry from both sides till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 5

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, place one lemon wedge on each tikki and serve hot.
