Ingredients for Date and Walnut Cake - No Egg Recipe

  • Chopped dates 1 cup

  • Walnuts toasted and chopped 3/4 cup

  • Refined flour (maida) 2 cups + for dusting

  • Milk warm 1 cup

  • Instant coffee powder 1 teaspoon

  • Baking powder 1 teaspoon

  • Baking soda 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt a pinch

  • Melted butter 1 cup + for greasing

  • Brown sugar 3/4 cup

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Buttermilk 3/4 cup

  • Icing sugar for dusting


Step 1

Preheat oven to 180º C. Grease a cake tin with some butter and dust with some flour.

Step 2

Put dates in a bowl, add milk and coffee powder and mix.

Step 3

Sift together refined flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt into another bowl and mix well.

Step 4

Add butter and brown sugar and mix well. Add vanilla essence and walnuts and mix.

Step 5

Add date mixture and mix well. Add buttermilk and mix till well blended into a batter.

Step 6

Pour batter into prepared tin, tap a little and place in the preheated oven. Bake for 45 minutes.

Step 7

Remove tin from oven and cool cake down to room temperature. Remove cake from tin, dust with icing sugar and serve.
