Ingredients for Buttermilk Herbed Chicken Recipe

  • Chicken on the bone cut into 2 inch pieces 750 grams

  • Buttermilk 1 cup

  • Thyme finely chopped 1 teaspoon

  • Oregano chopped 1 teaspoon

  • Olive oil 1 tablespoon

  • Shallots finely chopped 4-5

  • Garlic chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil to deep fry

  • Eggs beaten 2

  • Bread crumbs dried for coating

  • Tomato ketchup to serve


Step 1

Mix together olive oil, shallots, garlic, thyme, oregano, crushed peppercorns, salt and buttermilk in a bowl.

Step 2

Add chicken pieces, mix well, cover with cling film and refrigerate to marinate for 4-5 hours.

Step 3

Heat sufficient oil in a pan.

Step 4

Coat each chicken piece with flour, dip in egg and coat with breadcrumbs.

Step 5

Deep-fry the prepared chicken pieces in hot oil till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 6

Serve hot with tomato ketchup.
