Ingredients for Aloo Gosht Recipe

  • Mutton cut into bite sized pieces 1 kilogram

  • Potatoes peeled and cubed 2

  • Onions sliced 3-4

  • Cinnamon 1 inch stick

  • Black cardamoms 4-5

  • Bay leaves 2

  • Green chillies slit 4-5

  • Turmeric powder 3/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Mustard oil 4 tablespoons

  • Garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Ginger paste 1 tablespoon

  • Tomatoes,pureed 4-5

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Coriander powder 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Garam masala powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

Method

Step 1

Place onions, mutton, cinnamon, black cardamoms, bay leaves, green chillies, ½ tsp turmeric powder, salt and 1 cup water in a pressure cooker.

Step 2

Cover and cook under pressure for 25-30 minutes or till 7-8 whistles.

Step 3

Heat mustard oil in anon-stick kadai, add garlic paste, ginger paste and tomato puree and sauté for 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, ¼ tsp turmeric powder and 1 tsp garam masala powder and sauté till oil separates.

Step 5

Add potatoes and mix. Transfer mutton from pressure cooker into the kadai and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add water as required and cook till the potatoes are done.

Step 6

Adjust salt, add remaining garam masala powder and mix. Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
