Holi Special - 5 Gujiya Recipes with a twist

Being the food fanatics we are, our idea of a perfect holi comprises of gujiyas – lots and lots of them. After all, there is something about biting into these sweet flaky snacks that is way more comforting than smearing synthetic colour on people’s faces. So here are 5 delicious Gujiya recipes (with a twist of course!) for those who just can’t get enough and absolutely refuse to compromise when it comes to indulging in this classic.

Baked Moong dal Karanji

This is the most full proof way to satisfy your karanji craving without being burdened with guilt of over indulging in fried food.  The mushy sweet moong dal halwa filling and the flaky crisp exterior is a treat to your taste buds in each bite.

Dahi Gujiya Chaat

Your holi feast is incomplete without chaat as much as it is without gujiyas and this recipe brings both these together beautifully. Dry fruit stuffed gujiyas topped with an array of chutneys and chilled flavoured yogurt.

Chocolate and Nut Karanji

Luscious chocolates and crunchy nuts in this gujiya make it a guaranteed hit with the kids. If you are a fan of the sweet and salty combination add a pinch of salt while kneading the dough and we are sure you are going to binge eat this one!

Punjabi Samosa Gujiya

This recipe is half samosa and half gujiya. A spicy Punjabi aloo samosa filling inside the khasta crunchy karanji dough – fried to golden brown perfection. Serve with a sweet date and spicy green chutney – no one will be able to stop at just one.

Oats and Dates Gujiya

This one tops the list of healthy holi treats. The filling is made with wholesome oats, crunchy nuts and sweetened with dates – so it is perfect for weight watchers or anybody who wants to keep sugar out of their diet. The recipe calls for deep frying but you can easily bake this one too!
